Kenya

DAY 1 Nairobi

A warm welcome awaits once you are through customs and immigrations. Your personal Born Free host will escort you to the hotel and fill you in on the upcoming adventure. Relax this evening; there is no need to leave the hotel, as it has several wonderful restaurants.

Norfolk Hotel

DAY 2 & 3 Amboseli Game Reserve – Mt. Kilimanjaro

Begin the day with a grand buffet breakfast, and then you are off on safari! Wing your way to the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Amboseli Game Reserve. You are met by professional guides who take you on your first exciting game drive in the bush, en-route to your lodge. Amboseli is a place of stark contrast, the name meaning “salty dust” in Masai. Amboseli, despite its sometimes dry and dusty appearance, has an endless supply of water filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Mt. Kilimanjaro’s snow melt. These underground streams converge into clear fresh water springs in the heart of the park. The powder like dust is volcanic ash, which was thrown from Kilimanjaro millennia ago. The main attraction of Amboseli is its vast herds of elephant. The bull elephants here have some of the largest tusks in Kenya.

The early morning and late afternoon photographic opportunities are incredible, with plentiful game and Mt. Kilimanjaro (the highest freestanding mountain in the world) providing an impressive and majestic backdrop.

Amboseli Tortilis Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4 – 6 Lewa Downs Conservancy

Up early; fresh coffee is served in your tented chalet as you watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro. Head out on one last Amboseli game drive before heading on to the Lewa Conservancy. Lewa Downs is possibly the best known and most successful ranch/home stay in Kenya. It provides a gracious combination of hospitality, unforgettable scenery and good wildlife. Located near Isiolo in the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Lewa Downs is an 18,000-hectare cattle ranch and has been home to the Craig family for three generations. Your camp will be at the old Rhino Sanctuary headquarters. Stay in large, beautiful tents with full facilities and a swimming pool.

During your stay at Lewa there will never be a lack of activities. Head out on traditional game drives in open vehicles, take exciting night drives, and visit a traditional village. Then you can select from one of the featured activities, such as a horseback safari or camel experience. A Wilderness Trails fully-inclusive upgrade is also available.

Lewa Safari Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Please Note: Lewa is closed from April 1 – May 1 and October 21 – December 1. If you wish to book this itinerary during this period, we will gladly suggest an alternative.

SPECIAL OPTION Giraffe Manor

Fly south to an area outside Nairobi, and one of the most unique accommodations in the world. The Giraffe Manor is an elegant, personally hosted, small and exclusive hotel, famous for its resident herd of giraffe. The Giraffe Manor offers a rich blend of welcoming accommodations, highly trained and friendly staff, and one of Nairobi’s finest kitchens. The Giraffe Manor is surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forest just outside Nairobi. As well as the giraffe, the property is also home to many species of birds, large families of warthogs and the elusive Bush Buck. Your stay includes dinner in the Grand Manor House Dining Room, and the breakfast is not to be missed!

Giraffe Manor (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7 – 9 Siana Conservancy & Masai Mara Game Reserve

After a delicious breakfast, board a scenic flight to the Siana Conservancy & Masai Mara Game Reserve. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti Plains of Tanzania, and is an essential part of the ecosystem. The annual migration of the wildebeest heads from the Serengeti north into the Mara – and with them follow the predators. The Mara has fabulous resident game all year round and never fails to disappoint. In one sweep of binoculars you can see a hundred elephants, lion, cheetah, impala, zebra, and wildebeest. Become a part of the life in the Mara – birth, feeding, death and life – an incredible experience that you will never forget.

The days in the Mara are tailored to your interests and follow the wildlife movement. You may choose a game drive in the morning and a walking safari or a village visit in the afternoon. The knowledgeable guides are experts in finding the wildlife. On full day game drives, a delicious lunch will be served in the bush. The customized vehicles are equipped with oversized windows and large photographic hatches making sure that you have the best unobstructed views of this spectacular area. After dinner in camp, sit around a roaring campfire and exchange stories of the bush.

Each of the Born Free recommended camps offer many activities, including some that cannot be done in the main Mara Reserve. Options include game drives, walks, night drives, authentic village visits, eco-tourism and giving back to the local community. These deluxe camps are located away from the high concentration of camps along the Mara River, allowing you a better game viewing experience without being surrounded by minivans. The professional guides are committed in searching out the best game, whether they are in the Mara proper or on the concessions.

Your Choice of Accommodation: Leleshwa Camp / Mara Plains Camp / Serian / Elephant Pepper Camp / Little Governors’ Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
