Kenya

DAY 1 Nairobi

A warm welcome waits as you arrive in Africa. Once past airport formalities, your Born Free Representative will meet you and escort you to your hotel for an evening of rest. The adventure begins in the morning!

Fairview Hotel

DAY 2 & 3 Amboseli Game Reserve – Mt. Kilimanjaro

After a wonderful breakfast, you are off on your magical journey through Africa. Head down the Mombasa Highway to the foothills of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro. Amboseli is the home of large herds of elephant, cheetah and Cape buffalo. A dawn game drive reveals the breathtaking golden glow of the open lake bed as the sun slowly rises. After lunch and a dip in the pool, head out for another game drive which is sure to reveal more surprises.

Amboseli Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Tanzania

DAY 4 Lake Manyara National Park

Head out to the border of Kenya and Tanzania where you will meet your Born Free Tanzania guide. Board the deluxe 4-wheel Land Cruiser/Land Rover equipped with photographic hatch and head out through the lush countryside. Today’s destination is the lovely Lake Manyara Park. This park lies at the foot of the escarpment of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley. More than two thirds of this small park is covered by a vast lake. Despite the park’s size, there are a variety of habitats, with the consequence of a spectacular diversity of wildlife including elephant, baboons, giraffe and antelope.

Lake Manyara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 5 & 6 Ngorongoro Crater

A visit to a Maasai village is on tap today. Warm smiles welcome you as an Elder shows you around the manyatta (village). Later, take an easy bush walk to learn about the flora and fauna and how it is utilized in daily life. You’ll then drive on to the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater for the evening.

Ngorongoro is the world’s largest volcanic crater and covers about 100 square miles. Wildlife abounds, with a population of over 30,000 animals such as lion, zebra, Cape buffalo, rhino and hippo. There is a lake which is the feeding ground for thousands of pink flamingos. On Day 6, descend down into the Ngorongoro Crater to discover its brilliant scenery and wildlife. Because the crater floor is mostly flat grassland, with patches of acacia woodland here and there, game viewing is quite varied and remarkable. After your game viewing, head back up to the rim of the crater to the lodge for the night.

Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7 – 9 Serengeti National Park Or Masai Mara Game Reserve

The Serengeti ecosystem, comprised of Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, is one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges. This vast area of land supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa, on a scale unparalleled anywhere else in the world. The annual migration of more than 1.5 million wildebeests as well as hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles is triggered by the rains. They travel from the Serengeti southern region to the Mara in Kenya and back down as the grass and water warrant.

Base for explorations will vary according to the season you travel. While we cannot exactly predict where the migration will be, we can judge by historic movements. As a guideline, the African Kaleidoscope will visit the Serengeti from October 16 – July 15 and Masai Mara from July 15 to October 15

Born Free includes unlimited game viewing in the Serengeti and Masai Mara. They have fabulous resident game all year round and never fail to disappoint. In one sweep of binoculars you can see a hundred elephants, lion, cheetah, impala, zebra and wildebeest. Your knowledgeable guides are experts in finding the wildlife. The customized vehicles are equipped with oversize windows and large photographic hatches, making sure that you have the best unobstructed views of this spectacular area.

Mbuzi Mawe Tented Lodge or Mbalageti Tented Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

South Africa

DAY 10 Johannesburg

Bid farewell to the East African bush and fly back to Nairobi and then on to Johannesburg, South Africa.

Peermont Metcourt (Breakfast)

Zambia

DAY 11 & 12 Victoria Falls

Board a two hour flight to Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. A natural phenomenon, Victoria Falls is an immense curtain of water cascading over 328 feet. Around Victoria Falls is a rainforest sustained by the spray from the Falls with some plant species rarely found elsewhere in Zambia or Zimbabwe. The hotel is located just a short walk from the path that parallels the rim. This is also an excellent area to purchase local handicrafts.

There are many ways to see Victoria Falls, and we highly suggest one of the optional flight-seeing excursions, either by fixed-wing or helicopter for an additional fee. Another interesting perspective is a climb deep within the gorge into which the Falls descend – “The Boiling Pot.” It’s quite a steep climb, but well-worn steps make it a fairly easy descent. Returning up is a little more strenuous, but the view from below of the wide Zambezi thundering over the cliff, then compressing into a deep thin crevice, turning into the Batoka Gorge while crashing and swirling over rapids is quite spectacular. Tamer options include an Elephant Back Safari or even white water rafting.

Included on the African Kaleidoscope are the Sundowner Zambezi River Cruise and a walking tour.

Victoria Falls Hotel (Breakfast)

South Africa

DAY 13 Cape Town

Fly to the southern most tip of Africa, arriving in the late afternoon. This evening you’ll have time to relax and stroll through the picturesque waterfront. There are many excellent restaurants and waterside cafes.

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel (Breakfast)

DAY 14 Cape Town

This morning you are treated to the joys of Cape Town. With its scenic beauty, majestic and rugged coastline and vibrant lifestyle, Cape Town has now become one of the world’s favorite cities. Today will basically be at your leisure, after a morning cable car ascent to the top of Table Mountain.

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel (Breakfast)

DAY 15 Cape Of Good Hope & Wine Country

Today’s full day tour takes you along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, over Chapman’s Peak to Cape Point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Continue through colorful fishing villages to Boulders, the home of Africa’s penguin colony. After lunch, head inland to the charming town of Stellenbosch, located in the heart of the wine country. A wine tasting is planned at one of the top estates. Return to Cape Town in the late afternoon.

The Victoria & Alfred Hotel (Breakfast)

DAY 16 Cape Town And Your Journey Onwards

There are so many things to see and do in Cape Town that we will leave this day free. For those who would like tours arranged, we will listen to your interests and suggest the best the area has to offer. Visit Robben Island, the South African Museum and Cape Castle, or elect to have a half day vehicle at your disposal. This evening, return to the airport for your departure home. (Depending on the air schedule, an additional night may be required).
