Kenya

DAY 1 Nairobi

Upon arrival at the airport, you are greeted by a Born Free representative and escorted to your hotel for the evening. Your hotel has wonderful restaurant and facilities, so there is no need to leave tonight. Relax and get ready for your great adventure!

Nairobi Serena

DAY 2 & 3 Amboseli National Park – Mt. Kilimanjaro

After a wonderful buffet breakfast, you are escorted to the airport. A short flight takes you to the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. On arrival, you are met by the gracious Tortilis Camp staff, and there will be game viewing on the way to camp. The majestic, snow-capped, 19,352 foot peak of Kilimanjaro dominates the area and makes a great photographic background. The elephant population here is one of the largest in Kenya. Photographic opportunities abound: elephant, monkey, cheetah and zebra seemingly pose for our cameras against the breathtaking landscape.

The tents are all large with king or twin beds and elegant en-suite bathrooms. The main lounge is built with natural materials, and has magnificent views. Dwarfed by the majestic snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tortilis Camp nestles in a verdant acacia grove. While staying at this award-winning eco-tourism lodge, one cannot help but appreciate the contrast and enormity of Africa. Take exciting game drives in the morning and afternoon.

Amboseli Tortilis Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4 – 6 Samburu National Park

Wake up to freshly brewed coffee and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro from your tent – then wing your way north, flying over the Equator to the Northern Frontier District and Samburu National Park. This area is dry, rugged and stunning. On an afternoon game drive, your guide will point out species that are not found in the southern parks, such as the Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and the long-necked gerenuk. During your stay we urge you to visit the Samburu manyatta (villages) – the Samburu are a regal people with a rich history.

The luxurious tented lodge sits on the wildlife-rich riverbanks. All tents are large and sit on a raised deck with verandas where you might choose to have private candlelit dinners. For families and children, there are family tents available.

Samburu Intrepids Tented Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7 – 9 Masai Mara Game Reserve

Today, fly over the lake regions and down through the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti Plains of Tanzania and is an essential part of the ecosystem. The annual migration of the wildebeest moves from the Serengeti into the Mara, and with the wildebeest follows the predators. The Mara has fabulous resident game all year round and never fails to disappoint. In one sweep of your binoculars, you can see a hundred elephants, lion, cheetah, impala, zebra, and wildebeest. The Mara is the home to the BBC’S Big Cat Diary and Big Cat Live. Become a part of the life in the Mara – birth, feeding, death and life – in an incredible experience that you will never forget. Embark on morning and afternoon game drives in search of your favorite species. Your knowledgeable guides are experts in finding the wildlife.

Your accommodations are built on the banks of the Talek River, which joins the Mara River and eventually drains into Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake and the source of the Nile River. Every tent has an en-suite bathroom, and they are raised on stilts with views of the endless plains. This is high comfort in the bush.
