The &Beyond Crater Lodge is nothing short of pure fantasy, located at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Steeped in romance, it must be seen to be believed. After a game drive, head back to your room where a hot bath awaits with fresh roses and a roaring fireplace. Tanzania

DAY 1 Arusha

A warm welcome from the local Born Free host greets you at the airport. You are then whisked away to the Arusha Coffee Lodge, cradled in the country’s largest coffee plantation. A delicious dinner is served in the lodge’s charming dining room. Get a good night’s sleep before your adventure begins tomorrow!

Arusha Coffee Lodge (Dinner)

DAY 2 & 3 Lake Manyara National Park

Your safari adventure begins as you board a flight to Lake Manyara National Park. Here you will meet your private Born Free professional safari guide who will stay with you throughout your Tanzania safari*. Board the 4×4 safari vehicle and head into the African bush! Ernest Hemingway called Lake Manyara “the loveliest place I have seen in Africa”. More that two-thirds of this 127 square mile park is covered by lake, and the highlight of the park’s wildlife is the wonderful hippo population. Elephant, giraffe, monkeys, lion, impala, and more than 380 species of birds are also to be found among the park’s five different vegetation zones.

Two nights are spent in the area. The unique accommodations are in tree houses, nestled in the boughs of mahogany trees, with en-suite baths and wonderful, private outdoor showers. Morning and afternoon game drives are offered each day.

DAY 4 Gibb’s Farm

Begin the day with a steaming hot cup of fresh coffee or tea served in your private cottage, followed by breakfast and an early morning game drive. Then drive through the beautiful Tanzania countryside, stopping as you wish at local handicraft stands and villages. Arrive at Gibb’s Farm in time for a wonderful lunch prepared from produce grown on the property. Gibb’s Farm is located between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater, and is an ideal place to break the journey. Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm, and the 10-acre garden provides 90% of the ingredients needed for the meals that are served. This afternoon, take a walk to a small waterfall and tour the coffee plantation.

Gibb’s Farm (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 5 Ngorongoro Crater

Head off to the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. Descend 2,000 feet down to the floor of the crater for an exciting day of game viewing. The crater covers over one hundred square miles of terrain and is home to the rare black rhino, prides of lion, elephant, pink flamingos, and great herds of Cape buffalo and antelope.

One of the most outstanding properties in Africa is your home for tonight. Perched on the edge of the ancient crater rim above the swirling mists, the Crater Lodge is an architectural masterpiece. Your sumptuous suite is filled with graceful antiques, grand chandeliers, a hand-carved four poster bed – and the most fabulous bathroom facilities you will ever see! The stay includes game viewing activities and a picnic lunch on the crater floor. Massages are also available on request.

&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 6–8 Serengeti National Park

Do not miss the sun rise over the Ngorongoro Crater rim – it is a site to behold. Next, fly into the Serengeti, the world’s premier game viewing park. The 10,000 square mile Serengeti is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. The name comes from the local Masai tribe’s word “siringiti”, for “endless plains” – although the types of terrain are as varied as the animals that live here. Massive islands of granite, grassy plains, an acacia savannah, woodlands, and a range of mountains support inhabitants including wildebeest, zebra, great prides of lion, magnificent cheetah, large herds of elephant and thousands of other species. Take morning and afternoon game drives in 4×4 safari vehicles over the next three days. Accommodations change due to the seasonal movement of the migrating wildlife.

May-July
The romance of Africa is alive at Grumeti. Grumeti River Camp is located in the western corridor of the Serengeti, amid a picturesque valley. Ten luxurious tents with en suite bathrooms are lined up along the banks of the river and hippo pools.
&Beyond Grumeti River Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

August-November
Klein’s Camp is located on 24,700 acres of the game-rich northeastern Serengeti, and is set aside as a private concession for the exclusive use of Klein’s guests. Day and night game drives in open 4×4 Safari cruisers are led on- and off-road, as are interpretive bush-walks. Klein’s is comprised of eight intimate cottages, made of local rock and thatch with classic interiors. There are breathtaking views of the valley along the migratory route of the wildebeest, zebra and elephant.

In Klein’s you will leave your private guide and participate in game drives in open sided vehicles with the camp guides.*
