Kenya

DAY 1 Nairobi

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you are greeted at the airport and escorted to your hotel. Get a good night’s sleep – the adventure begins tomorrow!

Crowne Plaza Hotel

DAY 2 & 3 Amboseli National Park

Drive to Amboseli National Park, with game viewing en-route to the lodge. The majestic snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro’s 19,352 foot peak dominates the area and makes a great photographic background. Wake up just before dawn with a fresh cup of tea or coffee, and take off on an early morning game drive, the best time to see Kilimanjaro and the animals as they become active for the day. Return back to the lodge for a delicious breakfast before additional game drives throughout the day.

The early morning and late afternoon photographic opportunities here are incredible, with plentiful game and Mt. Kilimanjaro (the highest freestanding mountain in the world) providing an impressive and majestic backdrop.

Accommodations are in Tortilis Camp, an exclusive tented lodge on the edge of the Reserve. Enjoy the luxury of going out with a Maasai expert for a guided game walk outside the park. Take a game drive in an open-sided vehicle. Watch elephant families close by as they forage just outside camp. Relax in the lounge and gaze at the awe-inspiring view of Africa’s highest mountain: Kilimanjaro. Eat a delicious home style meal, made with vegetables and herbs grown in camp. Take in the view from your tent verandah. At night, the sounds of the bush lull you to sleep.

Amboseli Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Tanzania

DAY 4 Arusha

After a last glimpse of the wildlife in Amboseli, continue over the border into Tanzania. After clearing customs and immigrations, continue on to Arusha in time for lunch and an afternoon relaxing at the hotel.

Serena Mountain Village (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 5 & 6 Tarangire National Park

Depart for Tarangire National Park, the quintessence of Old Africa. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. This unique park has an intriguing, prehistoric atmosphere, with ancient baobab trees, scrub bush, strangely horned antelopes and tall giraffe. This park, which is less visited by tourists than the others, has a very different and magical feel. Even without the excellent wildlife, and over 500 bird species, the visit would certainly be worthwhile!

Tarangire Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7 Lake Manyara National Park

Depart Tarangire and take off towards Lake Manyara National Park. Ernest Hemingway called Lake Manyara “the loveliest place I have seen in Africa”. Tonight’s lodge, designed to reflect the area’s vast birdlife, is perched high on the escarpment, with breathtaking views of the park and lake below.

Lake Manyara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 8 Gibb’s Farm – Ngorongoro Highlands

Depart for Karatu and a tour of Gibbs Farm, with an option to hike to the waterfalls and elephant caves. Travel a short distance further into the Ngorongoro World Heritage Site and Conservation Area. Travel through magnificent changing scenery to your hotel, which sits on the rim of the crater with panoramic views of the park below. Ngorongoro is the world’s largest intact caldera, with its rim averaging 7,600 feet in elevation.

Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 9 Ngorongoro Crater

Today holds more excitement as you descend 2,000 feet in a 4×4 vehicle into the Ngorongoro Crater. It is estimated that more than 30,000 animals can be found within the crater walls at any one time, making for spectacular game viewing. It is home to the largest non-migratory populations of wildlife in East Africa, including prides of lion, the rare black rhino, elephant, cheetah, antelope, great herds of Cape buffalo and so many more. Explore the forest areas, where the monkeys live; the lake area, where you may see the beautiful flamingos; and the open savannahs, where the majestic lions hunt for food.

Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 10 Olduvai Gorge To Serengeti National Park

Up early this morning for a visit to a Masai Village. Later, travel off the main road to Olduvai Gorge, the famed archaeological site where the Leakey family discovered one of the oldest known human skulls. A little further west is the Serengeti. Her vast rolling plains display the greatest wildlife spectacle in the world. Each day will be a surprise as the daily wildlife routine unfolds – however, there will be nothing routine as far as what you see!

Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 11 & 12 Serengeti National Park

This is the Africa you’ve been imagining. The 10,000 square mile Serengeti is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. The name comes from the local Masai tribe’s word “siringiti”, for “endless plains” – although the types of terrain are as varied as the animals who live here. Massive islands of granite, grassy plains, an acacia savannah, woodlands, and a range of mountains support the thousands of species you may encounter. Take morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti.

Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 13 Arusha And Your Journey Onwards

After a morning game drive en-route to the airstrip, fly back to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. A dayroom has been provided for you to unwind and relax before your international departure.

(Breakfast, Lunch)

Optional Extension

DAY 13 & 14 Masai-mara Game Reserve

Continue on your East Africa Classic Safari as we board a flight to Kenya and the Masai-Mara Game Reserve. The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti Plains. Our base for explorations will be located near the Mara River, where the wildebeest cross between the Serengeti and the Mara on their annual migration. All year the game is great, with resident predators, elephant, lion, cheetah and hyena.

Kichwa Tembo Tented Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 15 Nairobi And Your Journey Onwards

Take a dawn game drive and board a short flight to Nairobi. Tonight, bid sad farewell to Africa with promises of returning to this incredible region of the world. A dayroom has been provided for you to unwind and relax before your international departure.
