DAY 2 Nairobi – Karen

After a leisurely wake up and breakfast, meet your Nairobi guide, board your vehicle and head to Karen, a suburb of Nairobi. Visit the Karen Blixen Museum, the AFEW Giraffe Center, and local markets. There will be time to pick up safari gear before returning to the hotel.

DAY 3 Masai Mara Game Reserve

Meet your traveling companions and professional guide, and head down Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Pass Mount Longonot, a dormant volcano, before reaching the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This afternoon, head out on the first thrilling game drive, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The thatched roof lodge is set in the hills above this fabled game reserve, and has been decorated to reflect the local Masai tribe’s culture and art.

Masai Mara Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4 Masai Mara Game Reserve

Up early for a morning safari. This is a great opportunity to see the animals as they wake for the day. Return to camp in time for lunch and rest; later this afternoon, venture out on the second game drive of the day. The Masai Mara borders Serengeti National Park and is in the same ecosystem. Many times of the year you may see a large number of lion, hippo, crocodile and vultures. Other game to be found here includes elephants, cheetahs, baboons, gazelles, giraffes, jackals, leopards, hyenas, water buffalo, ostriches and a large variety of antelope and bird life.

DAY 5 Great Rift Valley To Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, head up the 10,000 foot cliff of the Mau Escarpment, past the Masai town of Narok. Lake Nakuru is the next stop on the safari adventure. This area has fantastic bird watching; in fact, the lake often looks pink from the thousands of flamingos lining its shores. The park is also home to leopard, black rhino and plains game.

Lake Nakuru Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 6 Amboseli Game Reserve / Mt. Kilimanjaro

Head out along the Mombasa Highway to the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Amboseli Game Reserve. The area receives an endless supply of water from Kili’s snow melt, and sustains an abundant wildlife population. The park is home to huge elephant herds, buffalo, zebra and numerous plains game, as well as over 400 species of birds. From the lodge, you can sit and watch the sun set on Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Amboseli Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 7 Amboseli Game Reserve / Mt. Kilimanjaro

A dawn game drive reveals a breathtaking golden glow over the area as the sun slowly rises. This is the best time to see snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, and to see the animals as they start to become active for the day. After lunch and a dip in the pool, head out for another game drive which is sure to reveal more surprises.

Amboseli Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 8 Lake Manyara National Park

An early morning start as you cross the border into Tanzania, stopping in Arusha for lunch and a bit of handicraft shopping. Continue across the vast Masai Steppe, arriving at Lake Manyara in the late afternoon. Tonight’s lodge is perched high on the escarpment, with breathtaking views of the park and lake below.

Lake Manyara Serena Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 9 Lake Manyara National Park To Serengeti National Park

Today’s game viewing takes you to Lake Manyara National Park, a short drive from the hotel. The park has five different vegetation zones at different elevations, and a host of exciting game, including elephant, giraffe, monkeys, lion, impala and over 380 species of birds.

Leaving Lake Manyara, the journey continues across the hilly countryside of Karatu and the highlands, filled with wheat and coffee plantations. Head into the vast plains of the Serengeti, and keep your eyes open for the fabulous game this area is famous for. Accommodations tonight are traditional in style and nestled in the acacia woodland, overlooking the plains of the Serengeti.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 10 Serengeti National Park

This is the Africa you’ve been imagining. The 10,000 square mile Serengeti is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. The name comes from the local Masai tribe’s word “siringiti”, for “endless plains” – although the types of terrain are as varied as the animals that live here. Massive islands of granite, grassy plains, an acacia savannah, woodlands, and a range of mountains support the thousands of species you may encounter. Take morning and afternoon game drives in the park.

Serengeti Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 11 Serengeti To Olduvai Gorge To Ngorongoro Highlands

Awaken to the sounds of the bush and take one last game drive through the Serengeti. Travel off the main road to Olduvai Gorge, the famed archaeological site where the Leakey family discovered one of the oldest known human skulls. Travel through the dramatic Ngorongoro Highlands, a range of ancient volcanic mountains, arriving at your lodge in the late afternoon. Perched along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, your lodge for this evening has fantastic views of this spectacular area.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 12 Ngorongoro Crater

Today holds more excitement – descend 2,000 feet in a 4×4 vehicle into the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest undamaged caldera in the world. It is estimated that more than 30,000 animals can be found within the crater walls at any one time, making for spectacular game viewing. It is home to the largest non-migratory populations of wildlife in East Africa, including prides of lion, the rare black rhino, elephant, cheetah, antelope, great herds of Cape buffalo and so many more. Explore the forest areas, where the monkeys live; the lake area, where you may see the beautiful flamingos; and the open savannahs, where the majestic lions hunt for food.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 13 Tarangire National Park

Depart the Ngorongoro area for the local village of Mto Wa Mbu Village, and meet the tribal people. Continue on to Tarangire National Park, the quintessence of Old Africa. This unique park has an intriguing, prehistoric atmosphere, with ancient baobab trees, scrub bush, strangely horned antelopes and tall giraffe. This park, which is less visited by tourists than the others, has a very different and magical feel. Even without the excellent wildlife, and over 500 bird species, the visit would certainly be worthwhile. The lodge tonight is in a fantastic location, set amongst the trees inside the park.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 14 Tarangire And Your Journey Onwards

Head back to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. Continue the journey to Nairobi by air or road; you may also choose to book a dayroom to unwind in before your international departure.
