THE JEWEL OF THE INDIAN OCEAN

The Seychelles: Seductive Islands - Romantic, Remote & Unspoiled

Overview

Located 1,000 miles off the Kenyan Coast, the Seychelles are a pristine, remote chain of 115 granite and coral islands. Crystal clear turquoise waters, powder white-sand beaches, lush vegetation, coconut groves, and swaying palm trees make up this paradise. The islands weren’t even inhabited until the 17th century. Some of the rarest plants and animals on the planet can be found here, including the world’s largest seed, smallest frog and heaviest land tortoise. The islands have a vibrant mix of African, European and Asian influence, with fantastic Creole cuisine. The beautiful beaches, rare animals and unusual plant life make a visit to these wondrous isles a great finish to any of our tours.

MAHE
The largest of Seychelles’ islands and the location of the main airport. Mahe is only 17 miles by 5 miles wide with lush tropical hillsides. Many activities are available including diving, water sports and walking rails. Hotels are set in tropical gardens and in relatively unspoiled regions. Generally, Mahe is the jumping off point to visit the smaller islands. This beautiful island has great beaches, fine hotels and a range of granite peaks running through its center.
Recommended hotels: Banyan Tree; Coral Strand; Four Seasons; Fisherman’s Cove, Maia Luxury Resort

PRASLIN
The second-largest island in the chain and is located 21 miles off Mahe. Many claim it to be the Garden of Eden due to the magnificent forest, Vallee de Mai. The flora is magnificent and there are many endemic birds such as the Black Parrot, the Bulbul and the Blue Pigeon. The island has many miles of fantastic white sand beaches including Anse Lazio, rated as one of the best beaches in the world. The island is an ideal base to visit other islands by boat such as La Digue, plus Cousin and Aride (both bird sanctuaries) and Cousin – a breeding colony for the giant tortoise.
Recommended hotels: Constance Lemuria; Chateau de Feuilles

LA DIGUE
A charming, untouched island. It can be reached via Praslin on a 30 minute ferry ride or by helicopter. It is a stunning island of masses of granite rocks contrasting with the white sand beaches and green vegetation. This is the most photographed of all the islands. The island has changed little over the years and is for the traveler who just wants a piece of tropical solitude. For the visitor the main means of transportation is by pedal power, foot or by ox-cart!

SILHOUTTE ISLAND
Combines a remote paradise beach, a stunning resort and a back to nature experience. Labriz Lodge is located on a stretch of soft sand beach, with emerald green forests and towering mountains. Resident naturalists are on hand to assist in showing you the island.

NORTH ISLAND – YOUR OWN PRIVATE ISLAND North Island Lodge has been designed to please the most discerning guest. This is luxury at it’s finest with each grand private villa is handcrafted from natural materials and opens out to the sea. Service is discreet, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings and completely escape.

Part of the world’s longest coral reef system, North Island has some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling sites. The Island is a sanctuary with a delicate carbon footprint, where endangered plant and wildlife species have been introduced.
